How to make avocado toast taste better

A mound of soft green avocado puree sits atop a crispy piece of country toast and is topped with delicious avocado toast toppings like heirloom tomatoes, radishes, herbs, and even edible flowers. Um! Avocado toast may seem like an extravagant meal when you order it at a fancy cafe, but did you know it’s one of the easiest things in the world to make at home? I mean really easy. I have been asked this question once or twice in my career as a plant-based nutritionist. How do you make avocado toast? Well, I’m going to share my simple steps, along with my avocado toast recipe and avocado toast ingredient suggestions. This guide is super easy – it only takes 5 minutes to make this avocado toast. Step-by-step guide to making avocado toast even better:

Start by picking a delicious ripe avocado. These are avocados I picked from my own trees at Ojai Orchards.

1. Pick a perfectly ripe avocado

Start with very ripe avocados. It should feel soft and pleasant to the touch, without a mushy feel. You can choose from a variety of avocados that are in season, such as Hass, Fuerte (pictured) and Pinkerton. I plant them all in my orchard.

Here’s everything you need to make avocado toast: whole wheat bread, avocado, garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.

2. Collect raw materials

Gather what you need: good whole wheat bread, avocado, garlic, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Then come your toppings (see ideas below).

Cut ripe avocados in half with a dull knife.

3. Cut the avocado in half

Using a dull knife (such as a table knife or butter knife), simply cut the avocado in half lengthwise. It’s easy to cut your hands cutting an avocado in half (I know, I’ve done it myself). Ripe avocados are very tender, so there is no need to use a sharp knife.

Remove the core with a spoon.

4. Remove pits

Cut the avocado in half and remove the core. You can do this by taking a butter knife, tapping it into the dimple, and then twisting it with a little force to pop it out. Another method is to use a small spoon to gently scoop out the core. Avoid using sharp knives as it is easy to cut your hands during the process.

5. Scoop out the avocado

Run a small spoon gently along the counter of the avocado peel to scoop the avocado pulp from the peel—getting as much of the good green stuff as possible.

Choose a small bowl to spread the avocado on.

6. Put avocado meat into a small bowl

Place avocado halves in a small bowl (one avocado is about 3 cups) to provide enough room to work with.

A squirt of lemon juice will prevent it from turning brown.

7. Spray lemon juice

Simply spray avocados with a small drop (about 1 teaspoon) of fresh lemon to brighten the flavor and prevent them from turning brown. Lemon juice helps prevent the compounds in avocados from oxidizing.

If desired, add a small clove of minced garlic.

8. Add garlic

Place a small peeled clove of garlic in a garlic press and press; add it to the bowl. If you don’t like the taste of garlic in avocado toast, you can skip this step.

Season with salt as needed.

9. Season avocado with salt

Season avocados with just a pinch or sprinkle of salt.

Season with black pepper.

10.Add a little black pepper

If you want a little spiciness, add a little freshly ground black pepper. You can also try a dash of red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper.

Mash mixture together.

11. Mash avocado mixture

Use a fork to mash avocado pulp with seasonings until desired texture is achieved. I prefer my avocado toast spread smooth, with just a few little lumps.

While you’re toasting the bread (see below), take a step back and marvel at how delicious the perfect avocado toast sauce is.

Bake your favorite bread.

13. Toast bread

Choose your favorite whole-wheat bread (I myself like rustic sourdough hand-sliced ​​bread) and toast it in a toaster, toaster, or oven until crispy and golden. Keep in mind that one large avocado can usually make 4 small slices of avocado toast.

Spread guacamole on toast.

14. Spread with avocado puree mixture

Spread a thick layer of the avocado mixture on the toast slices and place on a plate.
