Aromatic, nutty roasted garlic is one of my favorite recipes. As the garlic cloves are roasted, the flavors caramelize together and the spiciness is replaced by sweetness. You can serve roasted garlic as an appetizer with olives and grapes. Or you can spread roasted garlic on bread and crackers as a delicious topping. You can even use roasted garlic as an ingredient in dishes such as dips, pasta sauces, and salads. The best part is roasting garlic is so easy! How do you roast garlic? Roasted garlic also has potential health benefits. Garlic belongs to the Allium vegetable family, along with onions, leeks and scallions. These vegetables contain sulfur compounds that have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. There’s no doubt that garlic consumption is linked to cancer prevention and heart health. Since ancient times, people have used garlic in traditional diets around the world, both as food and as medicine. Research shows that garlic has good anti-cancer effects; heart health, lowers blood sugar, blood lipids and blood pressure; antibacterial effects, and reduces oxidative stress and inflammation.

How long does it take to roast garlic? Place the covered garlic cloves in a small baking dish and roast in a 375 F oven for 40 minutes.

Roasted garlic is delicious with bread.

Step by step guide:

Choose plump garlic bulbs, like these heirloom garlic bulbs I picked up at the farmers market.
Or you can use conventional garlic from the supermarket, but look for large cloves.
Remove as much of the papery covering as possible from the entire garlic sprout, but do not break the clove from the sprout.
When you peel off the papery covering, your garlic should look like this.
Use a sharp knife to cut off the top of the garlic.
When you cut off the tops, you should expose all the garlic cloves – save those tops to cook in another recipe.
Place the trimmed garlic sprouts in the center of a small piece of aluminum foil.
Drizzle with 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil.
Cover tightly with foil.
Place the covered garlic cloves in a small baking dish and bake in a 375 F oven for 40 minutes.
Remove from oven and let cool for about 5 minutes. Remove from foil and serve immediately. Can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Look! Arrange garlic cloves on beet greens and serve with Swedish rolls.
Simply pick out the roasted garlic cloves with a fork and enjoy!
