My review of OneSkin skin care products

Once we reach our thirties and forties, skin care suddenly becomes more important for women. Products that once seemed like luxuries now seem essential to us looking and feeling our best. OneSkin is a skin care company that develops products that promote skin health at a molecular level.

I love their products that support healthy skin from the outside while I focus on my diet from the inside. Even though it’s a topical product, I’m fascinated by how they focus on rejuvenating cells from within.

Here are my thoughts on OneSkin products and how they can revolutionize the way we look at skin care and promote skin longevity.

What causes skin aging?

Skin health is closely related to our overall health. In fact, the skin often reflects what’s going on inside the gut and blood vessels. Generally speaking, aging is caused by a loss of integrity of the body’s cells – wherever they are, including our skin cells.

The rate at which our skin ages depends on our genetics and environment. Factors such as too much sunlight, pollution, diet and lifestyle choices can all make aging worse. These skin stressors can damage the skin and create aging “zombie” cells, which are now thought to be the root cause of skin aging.

When cells age, they stop dividing like normal cells. They will get bigger and bigger and sit there like zombies, accumulating over time. However, they still affect metabolism, and not in a good way. While taking up space, they begin to secrete pro-aging factors, including inflammatory cytokines and immune modulators.

Senescent cells also affect the healthy cells around them. They trigger neighboring cells to start aging faster and start breaking down collagen. This results in widespread inflammation, poor barrier function, and visible signs of aging. This is when we look in the mirror and start to notice sagging, fine lines and wrinkles.

Our skin is also our primary protective barrier against the external environment. It filters toxins, controls moisture, protects us from UV radiation, and more. Maintaining healthy, strong skin throughout our lives protects the health of our internal organs.

What can we do to reduce intrinsic aging?

Inflammation is key to aging. There’s a term called “inflammation” that reflects this close connection. Diet can have a huge impact. Focusing on a whole-food diet with plenty of fresh produce can reduce internal aging.

Fresh foods are rich in vitamins and antioxidants that fight free radicals. They also provide polyphenols, minerals, and other nutrients needed for healthy cells.

Avoiding sugar is also key. Sugar causes inflammation, oxidative stress, and the internal aging process. Internal aging causes structural changes in the skin, leading to fine lines, sagging, wrinkles and dryness.

Sleep is also an important part of slowing skin aging. According to a 2017 study, just two days of sleep restriction can make people look older and less healthy. Getting enough sleep (at least 8 hours) on a regular basis can help you look healthier and younger.

So what else can we do to help our skin be its healthiest?

How is OneSkin unique in reducing external aging?

Most skin care products contain toxic ingredients that can age us from the outside! Ingredients like parabens, toxic metals, and phthalates can damage the skin barrier. They also produce free radicals and oxidative damage. Even retinol can irritate and dry out the skin, causing more harm than good. It also does not remove senescent cells.

Many so-called “anti-aging” cosmetics may accelerate aging. Harsh ingredients and toxins can increase the accumulation of aging cells.

I love OneSkin’s cutting-edge research on skin biology, genetics, and aging. The results speak for themselves. First, they have extensive clinical studies to prove that their products work. Secondly, co-founder Alessandra Zonari’s biological age is 15 years younger than her current age!

What sets OneSkin apart is the discovery of a new peptide called OS-01. Peptides are fragments of proteins that are structural components of the human body, including skin. OneSkin scientists studied over 900 different peptides before discovering a unique peptide they called OS-01.

The science behind OneSkin products

OS-01 peptides are truly changing the science of dermatology and anti-aging. That’s because it’s the only peptide scientifically proven to reverse the biological age of your skin. This means your skin may age more slowly than the years pass. Your skin may look younger than you do!

OS-01 peptide reduces the accumulation of senescent cells and helps skin tissue look younger. It also supports the synthesis of collagen and hyaluronic acid, which are considered biomarkers of healthy skin.

To counteract daily exposure to damaging oxidative stress, OS-01 peptides also support repair pathways at the cellular level. As a result, the skin heals sun damage more effectively and maintains elasticity. This means you can still get vitamin D from sunlight, but you don’t have to worry too much about damage.

Other active ingredients in OneSkin

In addition to OS-01, OneSkin contains six other active ingredients in its facial formula. These elements were chosen to complement the peptides’ ability to rejuvenate the skin:

  • Prakashi oil – Praxaci Oil comes from the seeds of the Praxaci tree and helps the skin in many ways. It has moisturizing, smoothing, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It reduces the appearance of scars by supporting collagen production.
  • Andiroba oil – Andiroba oil is an oil derived from the seeds of the Andiroba tree. It is rich in antioxidants and helps protect the skin from free radical damage. This helps prevent fine lines, wrinkles and age spots. It also contains compounds known to stimulate cell regeneration and tissue repair.
  • Nicotinamide – Nicotinamide, also known as vitamin B3, is an important nutrient for the skin. Nicotinamide helps strengthen the skin barrier and prevent moisture loss. It also stimulates collagen production and helps even out skin tone.
  • Paulo Mulato Oleic Acid Extract – This extract comes from the seeds of the Pau Mulato tree, also known as Brazilian Mahogany. Oleic Paul Mulato Extract also supports the skin barrier and reduces dehydration. Additionally, it has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects and stimulates tissue repair.
  • Allantoin – Allantoin occurs naturally in a variety of plants, including comfrey and chamomile. It is known to soothe, moisturize and condition the skin. It can also promote tissue regeneration by stimulating collagen synthesis.
  • hyaluronic acid – Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a molecule found in human skin, connective tissue and eyes. It is important in maintaining tissue hydration, lubrication, and elasticity. HA is used in skin care products for its moisturizing and plumping properties.

OneSkin products

OneSkin includes OS-01 in all of its products, including those in its face and body lines. The face range includes a complete skincare routine including cleanser, daily moisturizer and eye cream. They even created a sunscreen to further protect skin from UV rays.

OS-01 do

  • PREP cleanser – This cleanser contains enzymes that help break down impurities and product residue without damaging the skin. It protects the skin’s natural barrier, making it best suited for use with OneSkin topical supplements. Research shows that using PREP can increase peptide absorption by 200%.
  • OneSkin OS-01 facial topical supplement – OneSkin’s facial products are topical supplements that target the root causes of skin aging. It contains the six ingredients mentioned above, plus antioxidants like grapeseed oil, rosehip and plum oils.
  • OS-01 Eye Topical Supplement – Eye cream adds specific nutrients to nourish the delicate skin around the eyes. Moringa, algae, and vegan collagen help reduce dark circles and boost collagen production.
  • OS-01 SHIELD Protect + Repair – “Protection” means that the product can help the skin resist ultraviolet rays and reduce damage caused by sun exposure. This sunscreen is fortified with vitamin C, green tea, acai berry extract, and tara fruit extract to further support skin. While I don’t recommend using sunscreen every day, it’s a great option when needed!

OS-01 body

OneSkin has also launched OS-01 Body Lotion, which helps reduce the signs of aging all over the body. Clinical studies show their topical supplements improve skin hydration while supporting the skin barrier. Seventy percent of study participants noticed improvements in skin texture.

My experience using OneSkin

I started using OneSkin products after researching their ingredients and scientific development process. It was important to me that they were truly clean and suitable for all skin types before recommending them on Wellness Mama.

I tried their early release eye product and I absolutely love it! Their lotions are great too. I tried it for the first time after a cold, windy, long day in the sun. My skin just finished drinking the lotion and it immediately felt better.
