I mentioned before that I was interested in italian food. Although our family eats many different ethnic dishes, Italian is one of the first dishes I tried. This homemade Italian seasoning blend is the perfect way to season everything from pasta sauce to soup to meatballs.
Italian is a classic weeknight meal in many American households, served with pasta sauce and pizza. We switched to a grain-free diet a few years ago while our family was recovering from different autoimmune issues. I quickly learned that pasta and dairy didn’t fit into our new lifestyle, so I had to get creative.
I started by making the following recipe:
Homemade Italian Seasoning
I found myself buying jar after jar of organic Italian seasoning, and it kept getting more and more expensive. Also, I have to buy a small spice jar every few weeks because we run out of them so quickly.
I already bulk ordered tea and lotion ingredients, so I decided to start bulk ordering Italian Vanilla as well. Dried herbs in the grocery store are usually not the freshest or tastiest. By ordering fresher ingredients from the herb shop, the food tastes so much better! If you grow your own fresh herbs, you can also dry them and use them.
I store this and all my homemade herbal blends in half pint glass jars. The lids are marked for easy use and can be stacked in cabinets for easy storage. However, any glass airtight container will work here.

You can also add some red pepper flakes if your family likes it spicy, but I prefer to adjust the spices for each recipe. Onion powder and summer seasoning are also popular additions but have not made it into my family recipes. If you follow an autoimmune diet, this is a delicious blend to add flavor to your dishes.

Homemade Italian Seasoning Recipe
Homemade Italian dressing contains dried herbs like basil, marjoram, oregano, rosemary, thyme and garlic and is a cost-effective alternative to store-bought pre-mixed dressings.
-
If your rosemary is whole, rather than cut, simply chop it in a food processor or grind it with a mortar and pestle.
-
Place all herbs in a glass jar and shake to combine. You can also mix them in a small bowl and transfer them to your jars.
