Share your review of Spenga and whether I recommend adding it to your fitness routine.
Hi! Are you OK? I hope you’ve had a great day so far. I’m going to take barre lessons and looking forward to family dinner later tonight.
In today’s post, I want to talk about Spenga! I had heard about it a few years ago and it had always been in the back of my mind as a format I wanted to try. Recently, a friend moved back to Tucson─we went to high school together! – Spenga is her fitness studio of choice. She invited me to take a class with her, so I was excited to finally give it a try. I have to say, it exceeded my expectations and I can’t wait to go again.
What is Spenga (which I recommend trying)?
What is Sponga?
Spenga is the abbreviation of Spin, Strength and Yoga. It is an innovative fitness concept that has become rapidly popular in recent years. This is a group fitness program designed to provide a complete workout in one session, providing the benefits of cardio, strength training, and flexibility training.
Spenga Concept: Why was it born?
Spenga was created to provide a time-saving, effective and enjoyable exercise routine that maximizes the benefits of different types of exercise without overloading any one exercise. The concept was developed to cater to individuals who may not have the time or inclination to attend multiple types of classes or visit multiple facilities to achieve their fitness goals.
What are Spenga classes like?
A typical Spenga session is 60 minutes long and divided into three equal parts:
Rotation:
Exercise starts with a high-energy spin bike class. This section focuses on improving cardiovascular endurance, boosting metabolism, and burning calories. This section includes a lot of sprinting and climbing; time flies!
strength:
Spins are followed by strength-training circuits using a variety of equipment including dumbbells, kettlebells, resistance bands, and bodyweight exercises. This section is designed to build muscle strength, increase bone density, and enhance overall functional health. Our special workouts combine functional and compound movements like rebel rows, push-ups, and bicep curls.
Yoga:
The class concludes with a yoga-inspired stretching and recovery session that promotes flexibility, relaxation and stress reduction. The final section ensures a holistic approach to fitness by nourishing the body and mind. I love breathing movements and gentle flow.
Advantages of Spenga:
efficiency: Save time by completing a complete workout in just one hour. Rich variety: Contains different types of exercise programs to prevent boring exercises.
Community: A group atmosphere can provide motivation and support.
Guided exercise: Classes are taught by experienced instructors ensuring correct form and intensity.
Comprehensive: Balance cardio, strength and flexibility in one workout
monitor: They offer heart rate monitoring to establish your personal “goal” baseline for the cardio portion. You can see your name on a little bubble and how you performed compared to your goals. This goal will change based on your performance and frequency.
Disadvantages of Spenga:
strength: May not be suitable for all fitness levels, especially those new to exercise or have specific needs. I didn’t notice a lot of modifications being offered, especially in the strength section.
Device access: The range or quality of equipment may differ at some locations than at other locations.
cost: Membership or class fees may be higher compared to single-discipline gyms or studios. I feel like our Tucson studio is very competitively priced compared to other boutique studios, especially if you choose the unlimited or automatic payment options. (I would say the cost per class is about $25, which is pretty standard here.)
Availability: Spenga Studios are not available in all areas, which limits access to some.
Possibility of Overtraining: Like any professional studio, it’s easy to get excited and want to go every day. Because of the strength training portion and the intense cardio portion, I feel it’s best to do it a maximum of 3 times a week, on non-consecutive days.
Can I use Spenga to lose weight?
You guys know this isn’t my first goal when I try a new workout, but I’m adding it here for curious friends and for The Man (aka Google). In order to lose weight with Spenga, you need to make sure you incorporate enough rest days into your daily routine, eat enough protein and produce, while maintaining a caloric deficit (which will change your body composition), and work on your nervous system. Your body must also be “prepared” for weight loss. So this usually means stress management and increasing maintenance calories. It’s very difficult to lose weight when you’re stressed out. I will also emphasize lifestyle habits that support happy hormones such as sleep, filling nutritional gaps, eliminating toxins, blood sugar balance, daily exercise, sunlight, protein, smart carbs, and healthy fats.
in conclusion:
Spenga is a carefully designed fitness program designed to meet the needs of those looking for a comprehensive workout without having to attend multiple classes or facilities. Its balanced approach to cardio, strength and flexibility makes it an attractive option for busy people looking to maximize their fitness results. As always, review your daily activities to ensure a balance of cardio, strength, mobility, and rest throughout the week. Talk to your doctor before making any fitness changes and respect your body.
I like this course. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I really enjoyed every part and thought the instructor was great. I can imagine how challenging it would be to hire a trainer with a background in cycling, personal training, and yoga. I’d be interested to know what the requirements are for an instructor because I imagine it requires multiple certifications.
Whether you’re new to fitness or a seasoned athlete, Spenga can be a great addition to your workout routine. By combining the best elements of cardio, strength and flexibility, it gives you a balanced daily routine while preventing boredom. If you have a studio near you, be sure to check it out.
So, tell me, friends: have you tried Spenga? What is your favorite fitness studio right now? My top three in Tucson are Pure Barre, Roots Hot Yoga, and F45.
