There are still some issues with returning to work and exercising. Awe is vital to overall health, and after a few years of testing your patience and endurance, now is a good time to flex the muscles responsible for appreciating the magic and meaning in your life. A recent study from Lifeway Research revealed that 57% of Americans wonder at least once a month how to find more meaning and purpose in their lives; fully one in five say they grapple with this question every day.

The good news is, there are ways to start experiencing more joy, connection, and purpose right away—and it’s easier than you think! Of course, if you regularly feel anxious or depressed, professional support is vital. The following three strategies can do wonders for a person’s prospects, but they are not a substitute for professional assessments and tools.

Ready to get started?

1. Start choosing beauty.

After a traumatic birth with my first son 19 years ago, I was blindsided by postpartum stress disorder (PTSD) and postpartum depression. Instead of being excited about becoming a mother, I felt unhappy, scared, and alone. It took a lot of therapy and medication, as well as a daily practice of what I call “choosing beauty,” to feel like me again.

One of the things that disturbed me during that time was that I no longer had easy access to the angels I had heard and seen throughout my life. Self-doubt and despair blocked my connection to the other side. Then, one day after treatment, when I was starting to feel like everything was getting brighter and more beautiful, I was sitting at a stoplight and a huge rainbow appeared right above the intersection. I love rainbows, it feels like a sweet sign that I’m going to be okay.

That night I excitedly told my husband about the rainbow and how magical it felt. I’ll never forget what happened next. Standing in our family room, I suddenly heard the voices of the angels again—just long enough to hear them instruct me to begin taking beautiful photos and writing about it every day for a year. That’s all I got – but I knew I had to follow that guidance!

I started a blog in 2006 as a way to hold myself accountable and carry a camera with me. I began to notice beauty that I had completely missed before—from the ladybugs that kept me company at the gas station, to my son’s toy cars lined up neatly to welcome me home from a business trip. Choosing to find and describe the beauty I find every day—even on the days I don’t feel like it—has opened my eyes and truly healed my heart. All these years later, I still often gravitate toward this approach.

2. Activate your intuition.

Each of us has unique intuitions—from a sudden strong feeling about a situation to an old acquaintance calling out of the blue. When we know how to use it and trust it, it is an incredibly powerful tool—an inner compass that can help guide our choices and strengthen our beliefs.

Among my new collection of WingTips Angel Art and Instructions is a set dedicated to finding magic and meaning. I have transcribed the angel’s guidance for each art print, including guidance on intuition. Regarding that piece, the angels said, “Your intuition is like a flower. When you pay attention to it and make sure it gets enough light, it will grow lushly.”

I like to remind us that our intuition is not just an automatic superpower we take for granted, it’s something we have to love. For example, if spotting an interesting object or natural wonder immediately feels like a sign from above—like the rainbow I saw after my session—we believe the first hint rather than second-guessing ourselves. If we feel inexplicably inspired to contact someone or take a different route home, we follow those nudges and believe there’s a reason for it.

On the back of the Intuition art print, Angels further describes how to enhance this inner wisdom, including: “Your ‘gut’ is the intersection of grace, guidance, and innate knowing. In order to access its wisdom, you must step outside A shadow of fear, opinion, and assumption, and trusting information that seems to pop up and immediately feels real.”

The more you do it, the easier it will be to believe in this superpower and let it enrich your life.

3. Tell people about it.

that’s right. When you start choosing beauty every day and trusting your instincts more, tell people! We need to normalize talking freely about magic and meaning because it is completely normal!

According to the Pew Research Center, most Americans combine traditional beliefs with beliefs in things like channeling, reincarnation, and spiritual energies found in nature, from trees to crystals. In fact, 72% of Americans believe in the existence of angels, yet I hid my relationship with them for years, fearing people would think I was crazy.

The more courageous I get in sharing the magic and meaning in my life, from blogging about choosing beauty to sharing spiritual experiences with colleagues, I’m amazed at how many people are eager to talk about it all. Many people also hide their experiences, talents, and practices; they just need to know they are not alone to start opening up.

There is so much magic and meaning in your life waiting to be discovered. I hope you can begin to invite it in by choosing beauty, honoring your intuition, and shouting it from the rooftops. -Liv Lane
